TRAVEL LIGHT!

In this fun STEM3Dkits Tracer Racer project students will design, print and then build their very own tracer racer car which has to successfully carry a pencil around a race track.  Once completed, they will go head to head with their classmates in a fun racing challenge to see who has designed and built the winning car.  But there is a twist...the hare doesn't always beat the tortoise.  This race isn't about being the fastest, but the lightest!

The course content guides students through the design process, from researching existing concepts, conceptualizing and developing their own ideas to then 3D printing their design. It also instructs them step by step on how to assemble their tracer racer. In conjunction with the course material, the complete Tracer Racer from STEM3Dkits includes:

  • Complete tracer racer electronics and car kit (AA batteries not included).
  • Base STL file (CAD model) link which students use as a starting point for their design.
  • Online access to student course content
  • Online access to teacher guide content

In this project students will learn about the design process as they design the pencil holder for their tracer racer. Students will also learn about the center of gravity and how it  relates to their design. You may also teach further on electric motors, kinematics, electronic circuits and basic principles of physics.
